Monday, 3-29-04. Perpetually sunny and warm.
On Friday I brought down my folks' numerous plants, as well as more random household items. Last Monday I stopped by this place to get some rad knee-high combat boots, but after giving them a try for a day they turned out to be one size too large. On my way through the city today, I stopped by the shop and traded in the old ones for a size smaller. They fit like a glove and they kick supreme ass.

Keeping with the recent tradition of doing nothing but helping my folks' move all weekend, I helped them clear out everything left inside their old place and stack it in the garage on Saturday. On Sunday we went back and sorted through everything, which lead to making 2 runs to the county landfill, 2 runs to my storage space, and 1 run to my place to drop off furniture I'm going to try to sell.

Sunday, 3-21-04. Overcast and cool.
The great move continues. For my folks and myself, most of the weekends this month will consist of only one thing: moving their stuff. This weekend I helped bring down a considerable portion of random household items and boxes. On my way back I stopped by the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood and wandered around for an hour looking at shops. I've been looking for a good place to buy some new shoes, but I came up dry in the end. Instead, I just stopped by a factory outlet mall on the drive back up north and got a new pair of Vans. My old ones served me well, but, when in the course of human events one's shoes begin leaking through the soles when standing on wet ground, it's time to replace them.

While munching on a characteristically bland breakfast yesterday morning, I was distracted by an odd buzzing noise eminating from my front window. I looked over and was surprised to find a rather large bee buzzing about behind my blinds. After a bit of a struggle, I actually managed to capture it in a glass I have reserved normally for catching spiders, and I set it free outside.

The weather has been unseasonably warm lately, so today I managed to get out and go for my first bike ride of the season. I meandered over to the park and fed bread to the geese, which seemed to not be very responsive to the free meal I brought for them. On my way back I stopped by the 7-11 and bought a slurpee.

I helped my folks move all their furniture out of their condo for most of the day today. Surprisingly, with the help of 2 other grown men it only took us about 3 hours (plus breaks), though at the end of the day we are all rather exhausted. After packing everything into the moving truck, we then had to unpack a large portion of the goods first at my apartment, then at my folks' place in the city. Though my hands now feel like they've been beaten by a metal rod for a few hours, I'm pretty jazzed. As a part of the move, I was handed-down my folks' old queen-size bed, plus a nice chest of drawers. Currently my new goods are occupying most of my living room and computer nook, and as soon as I feel up to it I'll be moving things around. As an additional favor to my dad (who hurt his arm and knee recently) I put their dining table back together after we unloaded their stuff this evening. Mtn. Dew was my saving grace on the drive back, as I'm going to need a lot of sleep tonight.

Break out the shorts! As I had previously predicted, I finally wore some shorts on Wednesday. The weather continues to warm up a few degrees every day, so I may be using my A/C soon. I'm hoping it won't be as much as my heating bill over the winter, which was absurd. For some reason my kitchen has a faint smell of pickles... I'm not sure where it's coming from, but I do plan on getting to the bottom of the odd pickle smell. I find the smell of pickles to be rather foul, so this is not a good development.

I finally made some free time for myself and washed my truck this morning. Having not washed it since before my Oregon trip in late December, and having driven over 2000+ miles since then (half of which was on grimey, slushy freeways) it was well beyond long overdue. I also washed out the bed and vacuumed/wiped out the cab. Now, the funky odors in the can are gone, and I can lean against the body without getting road grime all over my clothes.

Paul Winfield, RIP. You'll be missed, man.

Tuesday, 3-9-04. Perpetually sunny and warm.
According to the national weather service, a high pressure zone in Nevada is pushing all their hot air west, which explans why it's been about 20 degrees hotter this week than last week. I may have to break out the shorts tomorrow.. it's in the lower 80's.

I finally bought the trim and door sliders for the TV cabinet I'm making for my folks. Unfortunately I may have to return the sliders, as I think I purchased ones that are too long (18" sliders for doors that will only be about 12" wide). After searching for a good couple of months, I finally found a place that sells Bacardi dark rum, aka: Bacardi black. It turns out the community market I've been going to for the last year has sold it all along, and it just goes to show that I don't go shopping for booze that often. Anyway, I mixed some of the rum with a strawberry-lime Jones I bought at the same store, and it's an extremely tasty drink.

Friday, 3-5-04. Cool and partly cloudy.
Last night I played in my co-worker Chris' school band concert. His concert rendition of Metallica's "Fade to Black" went very well. It was a full house, and at the end he got a standing ovation.

Tonight I went over to my folks' mostly vacant condo and practiced singing and playing guitar for the first time in probably a couple of years. It was very entertaining, and I plan on doing more of it in the near future. Idiotic infighting, drama, and politics aside, I really miss being in a band. While I was over there, I read a considerable portion of Silent Night, which is an excellent read. In the still silence of reading, I kept hearing odd scratching noises coming from my folks' kitchen. After a while I went to investigate and discovered a gray mouse rummaging around in their kitchen trash compactor. In the interest of good karma, I just closed it back up and left it alone.
