Today was a bit of an odd whirlwind. After a jam-less toast and lime-infused sausage breakfast at Marketbar, we took dad to the famed Asian Art Museum at Civic Center for a Father's Day present. I left enamored with the Tibetan ceremonial garments, Chinese stone carvings, intricate Japanese Baskets, and, in particular, the soft-yet-intense Korean paintings. Afterward, a trip to buy my dad some pants quickly turned into a 'Damn, Robert REALLY needs new clothes' trip at Nordstroms. I found some nice pants, some even nicer shirts, and left feeling like I owed substantial favors.
Check out some creepy rad street art by Mark Jenkins. Wow, we're building solar sails already? Excellent. German word of the day: Kennwort (n) - Password |

Huzzah, I will be employed soon. My sister somehow managed to sell me to her boss for a summer job working at his design firm doing field work for a contract job. I'll be driving around northern California measuring the floorspace of bank branches and bringing the notes back to be put into new CAD plans. I'm very much looking forward to putting this on my resume... a second-year architecture student working for a design firm (even if it is only a summer job). To put it mildly, sweet.
Roseville was the destination today, as I drove there with the fam to have lunch with the grandparents. The restaurant was excellent, an upscale Chinese-fusion place with great food and an equally great interior. Upon returning to SF I was randomly reminded by Justin that tonight we were going to see the last season performance of the SF Symphony. It was quite the show. Afterwards Justin, his friend Kusaku, and myself sat down with a cheese pizza and played a colony-based board game well into the night. German word of the day: Augenbraue (f) - Eyebrow |

Summer is in the air... and it's leaving me wake up with goo in my eyes. Apparently whatever I'm allergic to has been blooming lately. The Rincon Hill area was blessed with my mountain bike and myself this afternoon, as I thought I'd ride around the mostly empty blocks that were formerly divided by the Embarcadero Freeway. It was a nice ride, the kind that somehow allows a person to gain a wider view of the immediate world. Former Alder Street house roommate Carrie and her husband Dharma came down to visit today. A few more of my sister's friends came over, and I settled into cookie-making duty. A plethora of other snack foods were made available and much of it was consumed before the evening was over.

I kept Alli company down at her place over last night. We sampled the local cuisine, played with the Guinea Pigs, and went for an extended walk down the path that hugs the cliffs west of the boardwalk. I rushed back this afternoon for a pre-birthday dinner for the paternal one at Gary Danko's in north beach. Excellent food, and quite the swanky place. After dinner the folks seemed to be talking seriously about getting another dog (or even two) when they buy a place again... I thought that was interesting. In yet another marking of time, I used up the last of my liquid laundry detergent today, nearly a full YEAR after it was given to me as a move-in gift by Justin's folks. That jug was a virtual bottomless pit of detergent... wow.
I've been doing a bit of research into the now long-gone and hideous Embarcadero Freeway in Sanfran. This was one of the more interesting sites I came across. German word of the day: Meerschweinchen (n) - Guinea Pig |

The end of my involvement with my old apartment offically came today, as I turned in the keys to my old studio apartment this afternoon. Though my current residence is far from perfect in itself, I certainly don't miss the old ant-infested L-shaped box very much.
Alli came up to visit today and, of course, somehow became lost on the drive up. I really don't blame her, however, as the streets and highways around the bay area are far from logical and ordered. After a nice trip to the Sutro Baths for an extended photo-snapping session, the wind finally became strong and cold enough to make us head back. FYI, I threw another sketch up in Random Works. I was waiting for a rather expensive burger at a place in the Haight and sketched out the condiments to keep myself busy. German word of the day: Wohnung (f) - Apartment |
