My good friend and inner circle cohort, Luke came to visit on his way back to Oregon on Thursday morning around 1 am. Yesterday we went to a burger joint in west portal, drove up to twin peaks for photos, and had sushi and dessert at Blowfish. Today the day was mostly spent around the apartment, though we did watch the classic Japanese movie, Seven Samurai on DVD. Luke ate all my animal crackers, then forgot to take the banana bread I made for him when he left. Now I'll have to build a cannon so I can shoot it into a crowd of television marketers.

I hate how my dinky fridge has changed my eating habits. When I lived in Santa Rosa and had a normal-sized fridge with a working freezer, I mostly had good-quality frozen dinners or pizzas (both of which seemed to be perpetually on sale at the local Safeway), with a good home-made dinner once or twice a week, and leftovers for lunch the following day. Here, my fridge isn't big enough to hold my condiments, let alone leftovers. My freezer should basically be considered worthless, as one can bearly fit 2 microwave dinners in it, and it doesn't even freeze anything anyway. As a result, my diet has become considerably less balanced and healthy. Today, however, I went to several markets (as the markets here in the city suck, so I can never find what I'm looking for at just one place) and bought mostly one-time-meal items, as to try and develop a new strategy.
For dinner, my family and I went out to Blowfish, an excellent and heavily stylized sushi restaurant. Cake and presents followed once we returned to mom and dad's place. I need new pants, as my slacks are developing a hole on the thigh where my mechanical pencil pokes through the pocket. Any volunteers for the funds to get me some pants? I think I'm growing my hair out a bit, at least on the top of my head. German word of the day: Hose (f) - Pants |

With my upcoming birthday, my folks and I decided that their present was going to be a scanner. I've had one on my wish list for a couple years now, since my last scanner was a cheap piece of crap that made photos look awful. We headed downtown to pick one up, and I became very much a fan of the shopping district down by Union Square.
I've found it unusual, and also slightly comical, that, since I acquired broadband internet access, I somehow have gained the mentality that posting large images or files (over a couple megs) online isn't any big deal. This is in direct contrast to my previous feeling, that, when I had dial-up access, I considered such internet behavior to be very high on my list of annoyances. That rare manic bug that I'm rarely hit with showed its face today. I finally managed to unpack almost all of my slumbering boxes that took up residence in front of my closet when I moved in. Laundry was put away, I watered the landlord's plants as a favor, then I finally managed to wash the truck. It was beyond filthy, and had been in this condition since around mid-spring this year.

This weekend I went on my first trip back to Santa Rosa since the move. It was badly timed, however, as the temperatures up there bordered on 100 degrees, and there was a massive forest fire just north of town. The air in the entire valley was filled with billowing smoke, and ash rained down like a light snow... it was interesting.
I'd planned to go for a couple bike rides at some of my old favorite path spots, but the heat nixed that even before I pulled into town. Instead, I was more than happy to hang out with Justin, his fam, and b-creature, who seemed to mostly avoid me. In the evening I developed one of my lovely headaches (most likely from the smoke and the heat combined), and it wasn't until the next morning that I'd finally rid myself of it. Justin's downstairs couch provided excellent sleeping accommodations, then we played a game of Risk before I headed out, at the conclusion of which Justin and I were tied, and his brother was one point behind us.
