We got our Christmas tree today.. it's a pretty good one. We had some trouble getting it in the tree holder, so I unfortunately had to trim a few too many branches off the bottom... otherwise, it's fine. Unfortunately, I can't post a photo on here because my damn digital camera is still in the shop. Last week I got a vague message saying something about a recall and they'll call me back this coming week. We'll see about that.
Tonight I went with my dad and sister and saw the new James Bond movie. It's about the most action-packed movie I've ever seen, and although the plot is a bit fuzzy at times, it's a pretty good flick. I had a particular liking for the British chick... mmm hot british chick. |

This has to have been one of the laziest days in my life. I socialized with the relatives this morning at breakfast, then I spent the entire remainder of the day playing Simcity 3K and watching TV. On several occasions I did both at the same time.
However, my unshakeable sense of determination did finally kick in. I took measures into my own hands this evening and simply uninstalled SC3K from my machine. I need to get things done this weekend, and I've recently lost so many days and hours to the SC3K drug that the situation has become horribly unacceptable. Oh, and my uncle's kids really weren't too bad this time. Like a good wine, they are apparently improving with age. |

After a month of being a virtual vegetable, the weather cleared up yesterday and I went for a ride out at Spring Lake. On the second hill I quickly discovered that I'm horribly out of shape, as I was wheezing for air so hard that I felt dizzy and slightly nauseous. Time to do more exercising.
My dad's side of the family is coming to visit for Thanksgiving this year. It should be nice, providing my uncle's kids don't have their usual attacks of perpetual hyperactivity and unruliness, which are pretty much destined to occur. "Toast and toasters" is apparently today's link theme. This is quite hilarious, thanks Jess. This is also very humorous, thanks Mag.. err Fairy. |

This morning I made the best french toast I've made in a long time. It was damn good. I threw a little butter in the pan beforehand to make it more "official, restaurant-style" and it worked.
I've grown tired of displaying my Strategic Command game results here, but I will mention that I managed to occupy Switzerland, France, Vichy France, Yugoslavia, Greece, the Baltic states, and Iraq. I also invaded Turkey and Egypt. This kept me occupied for a good length of time today, thanks Jess. I will warn, however, that there were a number of questions that cannot be answered because the map maker didn't put the countries on the map (El Salvador, Kuwait, Estonia, etc). Another oddity is that for some reason it seems over half the questions deal with countries from southern and central Africa. And I beg to differ, the British Empire was far greater than the Roman Empire ever was. Sounds like YOU need to go back to the tutorials page, buddy! |

The other night I watched Ed Wood and half of Network. Both are movies that go beyond the scope of excellence. I also applied for work at 5 places of employment. Wish me luck folks.
I woke up this morning at about 9:30 to a ringing phone. My dad called to tell me his computer crashed at work... that's great dad, I just went to bed 6 hours ago. I suggested a quick fix and went back to bed, thinking I'd wake up in a half hour. 2 hours later I shot out of bed feeling like roadkill, also realizing that I had very little time to prepare for work. Before I was even half-conscious I'd stuffed down 2 mediocre doughnuts and a glass of orange juice, taken a shower, and was on my way to work feeling quite nauseous. Work wasn't bad, I spent most of the time re-editing my "What I Would do if I was President" page. After work I finally managed to get the wood to build my surprise Christmas gift for my parents. I'd been making repeated trips to the highly recommended wood supply store up the freeway but never found anything to my liking. I went to the not-so-recommended local place and after two short trips I was successful. Tonight I watched a lengthy documentary-style synopsis on my favorite director, Stanley Kubrick, on BBC America. I made a batch of my famous cookies the other day, but now they have all been eaten. Kaboom. Thanks Cherz. |

I finally got around to bringing my old bread out to the avian life at Lake Ralphine today. I was surprised to find that, even after sitting open on the kitchen counter for a week, the dregs of the wheat and sourdough loaves showed absolutely no signs of molding. Maybe I should check the ingredients...
It's interesting how George W. says Iraq needs to "comply" with UN weapons inspectors one minute, and then says they need to "obey" the next... what kind of crack is he smoking now? This seriously frightens me. Unquestionable military ruler of the world, yet our kids can't even point out where Iraq or Afghanistan are on a map. Gee, I wonder if our priorities are a little screwed up..? |

Sad news, James Coburn died today. He was 74.
Work was a bit harsh today. Where am I? Remind me not to work any more 9 1/2 hour days in the lab, folks... no more. This is quite odd, but it is entertaining. Thanks Maggs. |

Yesterday was the first time since last winter that outside environmental conditions were right for me to wear my overcoat, which I did when I walked the dog in the late evening. It was a grand experience in coat-wearing, if there is such a thing.
I'm planning to restring my E-flat guitar to E because I'm way out of practice and I've had a lot of urges to play along with my old Metallica albums lately. Even though Nerdygirl already linked this, I thought I should too. Bush's speechwriter must visit that site often, as his speeches are that bad. I spent several hours browsing through this, it's pretty interesting. Even though I voted for the Green Party in the governor's race this year, I think the Reform party's ideas/ideals also look very promising. Unfortunately, their website is lacking quite a bit in regards to their views on more socially-related issues, and apparently the party history has been a bit sketchy. |

I spent most of my free time today playing SimCity 3k like a heroin addict plays with a needle, although I did manage to mop the bathroom floor (don't ask). I should also mention I worked this evening, bringing me to my second nugget of odd-ness.
While on my dinner break (AKA: Fast food grease break) I was looking at the pamphlets across from the front desk in the lobby when I noticed something odd. There, between the fliers warning about skin cancer and drug abuse, read a pamphlet titled "Getting what you want from DRINKING," and yes, "DRINKING" actually was in capital letters. To make it even more humorous, under the bizarre title was a large picture of a cocktail made out of a hollowed-out pineapple with numerous tiny paper umbrellas sticking out. I should mention, however, that the pamphlet was actually put together pretty well. It focused more on curbing one's drinking habits instead of preaching at the reader about how alcohol is the devil. Unfortunately, the title and the front image deserve some definite rethinking. Check out this article on the coming war over oil.. err Iraq. |

I took my digital camera back in today to get the video out and the "head needs cleaning" error fixed. Luckily, they cover parts and labor up to 90 days, so the job should be free.
I got an interesting omen when I was going to class today. I parked in my usual space a few blocks from campus to ride my bike in (standard procedure) except I noticed my bike's front tire had inexplicably gone flat. While walking to class, the closer I got to campus the more I started noticing how empty everything was (I didn't know today was Veteran's Day). Parking places, streets, walkways, and such... all eerily vacant. By the time I got to my classroom it was obvious that classes were not in session. I got a brisk walk out of it, but I think my bike was trying to tell me something. Today I rediscovered red meat. This is also pretty entertaining. |

Break out the Van Halen! For some reason I've been listening to a lot of Van Halen the last couple of days. Roth-era, of course.
My sister e-mailed me this. I already liked Bruce Campbell, but when I found quotes like: "Let's start making independent, rational decisions that we inherently know are better for us, and let's do it now" well.. now he just seems a couple notches higher on the cool-o-meter. He made some excellent points in regards to what humanity as a unit wants, versus what we actually need. I think what we as a world society need (more than anything nowadays) to dream and work to reach worthy goals. However, we cannot afford to let this happen at the cost of civility, society, progress, or nature. Again, right on Bruce. I spent a couple hours during the latter half of the day reading through this site. Pretty cool, providing my machine won't choke too horribly running it all... |

The rain has apparently managed to motivate juvenile delinquants to use their imaginations for the worst. On and off during the last several hours, some group of morons keep fishtailing their cars around the rain-soaked intersection in front of our house. They do a fishtail or a wannabe-180, then they go up the hill, turn around, and come back to do another. This is yet another prime example of this country's horrible lack of proper education and social instruction. I wore my hair down today and it was annoying. Oh yes, and work this afternoon was the opposite of fun.
I've been playing way to much Simcity 3k lately. Good computer games are like crack.. what day is it again? |

I finally finished my wooden shelf thing last night. We sprayed on 3 more layers of clear varnish in class and I put the hardware on when I got home. I finally compiled the few pictures I've taken of the assembly process... check 'em out.
It's been pouring down rain on and off since Wednesday night. This has been awesome, except for when my right wiper blade broke yesterday evening. The stoppers that hold the blade in are missing and the blade slides out of its housing when the wipers are turned on. This eventually brings the metal housing in contact with the windsheild, creating a sound similar to fingernails being scraped across a blackboard. I broke out the duct tape for a temporary fix and so far it's worked surprisingly well... however, this is not a permanent solution. I picked up my video/digital camera from the repair shop today. They left one problem unresolved (an error message that pops up) and now the video out doesn't work. They did fix the viewpiece, but I'm not yet convinced the video recording is ok. Swearing is mandatory in this situation. I also managed to check out wood prices at a nice wood supply warehouse up the freeway. I think I've settled on building my bookshelf out of mahogany... providing I can afford it, which at present doesn't look too likely. Care to donate? For a $10 donation, you'll get an autographed picture of the finished bookshelf. For $5, you'll get a varnished piece of scrap. |

I've been watching the History of Britain on the big H lately. Even though I'm generally not too interested in midieval or renaissance-era European history, I did find this program exceptionally interesting.
I had an excellent campaign against the Soviets yesterday morning. I managed to capture Leningrad, Minsk, Smolensk, Odessa, and Kiev.. and I only had Italy, Finland, and Hungary as my allies. I did my budget for the next few months this morning and it doesn't look good. Unless several hundred dollars magically appear out of nowhere I'll have to make a choice to either not give out Christmas presents or not build the bookshelf I was hoping to build in my cabinetry class... and gee, I wonder which will win out in that argument. This is separate from the fact that I also won't be able to afford going to Oregon this winter, nor will I be able to afford a new pair of boots. I'm going to start looking for a second job. It rained tonight... my joy is indescribable. It hasn't rained here since late winter, and it's coming down in sheets.. outstanding. |

My dad and I helped my sister move all day yesterday. She's staying with us for a couple months until she gets a new job and a new place to live. The experience wasn't terribly positive.
After collecting a little text file cluster of written material on my desktop, I finally got myself to edit it all and put it on my writings page. I've started writing up schematics for a bookshelf I hope to build in my cabinetry class. I've already weeded out several design flaws and made a few revisions. It should be pretty cool, providing I can afford the materials. Just as I predicted, the Halloween candy has been whittled down to the malted milk balls and tootsie pop flavors no one likes. |

Today was the last day I worked the infamous 10-hour Friday shift. I'm glad I got the extra hours in all month, and today's classes were pretty tame. Perhaps now I'll be able to afford to fix my digital camera and go to Oregon in January...
As one might expect, I've been eating way too much of the leftover Halloween candy. I'd imagine that in a few days all the less desireable candy will be all that remains. This makes me sick. This is pretty entertaining. |
